This describes what Svenskamentor (svenskamentor.se) actually does with data today, in plain language.

Who operates this site

Svenskamentor is operated by Mahdi Mansouri ("we", "us"), based in Sweden. Contact: contact@svenskamentor.se.

Chat ("Ask the mentor")

The message you type and the conversation history shown in your browser are sent to our backend, which forwards them to an AI model via OpenRouter. OpenRouter routes the request to one or more underlying model providers to generate a reply.

Please don't type sensitive personal details into the chat — health information, ID numbers, residence-permit details, financial information, or information about other people. You never need any of that to practise Swedish.

The chat is stateless on our side: nothing about your conversation is written to a database. Your browser resends the history with each message, and once a reply goes back we keep nothing from it except the anonymous counters below.

Rate limiting and usage counters

To keep free chat available fairly, we track per IP address how many messages you've sent in the last minute and how many tokens you've used in total. These counters live only in server memory (not a database or disk), are never linked to what you said, and reset whenever the server restarts.

Where the chat is available

Our AI provider offers its service only in certain countries. To respect that, our backend reads the country code that Cloudflare adds to each chat request (worked out from your IP address); if the chat isn't offered in your country, it says so instead of answering. The country code is used only for this check and isn't stored.

Bot protection (Cloudflare Turnstile)

To stop automated abuse of the chat, this site uses a small Cloudflare Turnstile widget. It usually verifies you automatically in the background; occasionally it may ask you to check a box. See Cloudflare's Turnstile Privacy Addendum and privacy policy for how they process it.

Feedback (thumbs up / down)

If you rate a chat reply or a recommended resource, two things happen, and voting is entirely optional:

• We log your vote together with the related message or resource text in our hosting provider's server logs (kept 7 days), so we can read it to improve the product.
• We save the vote itself in our database (Supabase, EU region): only up or down, whether it was about a chat reply or a resource, the resource's name, and the page's language, level, skill and track settings. No IP address and no chat text are saved there, so a saved vote can't be linked back to you.

Visitor statistics (Cloudflare Web Analytics)

To see how many people visit and how they find us, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It uses no cookies or local storage and doesn't fingerprint visitors. We only see totals — for example visits per day, the most-viewed pages, referring websites, countries, and browser and device types. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for how they process it.

Language preference

Your chosen display language (Swedish, English, Persian, Arabic, or Ukrainian) and, if you pick one, your learner track are saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers them. They stay on your device; the track is only sent to us as a filter when you ask for recommendations or use the chat.

The plain recommendation list

Browsing recommendations by level and skill without using the chat sends only your chosen filters (level, skill, track) to our server — no personal data, and nothing stored per visitor.

What we don't do

• No user accounts or logins exist.
• No advertising or analytics cookies.
• No selling or sharing of data for marketing purposes.

Who else processes data on our behalf

• OpenRouter and the AI model provider(s) it routes to — chat messages only, when you use the chat.
• Cloudflare — Turnstile bot-verification signals, cookie-free visitor statistics, and DNS.
• Render — hosts our backend and its operational logs.
• Supabase (EU region) — stores the anonymous feedback votes described above.
• Vercel — hosts this webpage.
• Zoho Mail — hosts our contact inbox.

Some of these providers may process data outside the EU/EEA, under their own standard contractual clauses or an equivalent legal safeguard — see each provider's own privacy policy for details.

Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

• Sending your chat message to generate a reply: performance of the service you requested.
• IP-based rate limiting and Turnstile bot-checks: legitimate interest (keeping the free service usable and abuse-free).
• Checking where the chat is available: legitimate interest (following our AI provider's terms).
• Feedback votes: your consent, given by voluntarily clicking a vote button.
• Visitor statistics: legitimate interest (knowing how many people use the site and how they find it, using totals only and no cookies).

How long we keep data

We keep no stored profile of you. The only database we have holds the anonymous feedback votes described above; they contain nothing that identifies you, so we keep them for as long as they help improve the product. What ends up in our providers' operational logs (feedback votes with their text, error traces, and basic request details such as IP addresses) is kept for 7 days and then rotated out automatically. We don't export or archive it elsewhere.

Your rights

Because we don't create accounts or keep a stored profile about you, there is no persistent personal record to access, correct, or delete on our side. If you have a question about a specific chat message, contact contact@svenskamentor.se — though as described above, we don't retain past conversations server-side.

If you believe we haven't handled your data properly, you can contact Sweden's data protection authority, IMY.

Cookies

We set no advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, so there is no cookie banner. The only cookie involved is Cloudflare Turnstile's __cf_bm, set when the bot check runs; it is strictly necessary for security and exempt from consent. Our visitor statistics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) use no cookies either. Your language and track choices are kept in local storage, not a cookie.

Children

Svenskamentor is not directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect data from users under that age.

We may update this page as the product changes. The date above reflects the most recent revision.
